Barry Culver is now retired from the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service after a distinguished career.
He has been offshore powerboat racing since 2002 as both a driver and navigator in different classes, after originally getting his adrenaline fix from water skiing.
The highlight of his racing career was winning the UIM 3A World Championship as co-driver to Jack Bobin in Norway back in 2016.


Graham Reeder & Martin Foster

The highly experienced pairing of Graham Reeder & Martin Foster go into the Cowes Poole Cowes race as favourites to win their class after an excellent win at the Poole Bay 100 race.
Their Mannerfelt design Batboat has had a long racing career but that hasn’t diminished its speed!

Peter Clarke & Brian Tait

Peter Clarke has been innovating plastic packaging and beverage cups for over 50 years and his interest in offshore racing has lasted nearly as long as he took part in his first race back in 1974.
After racing karts, he made a return to the water 10 years later and subsequently competed in OCR, Cruiser Class and rounded-off his comeback in Class 2 in 1989.
After a lengthy sabbatical, Clarke joined the fledgling UKOPRA series in 2018 and has competed in Class 3 ever since.
Brian ‘Bruce’ Tait first attended a Cowes race back in 2015 for and got the bug!
Two years later he was a helping maintain the smallest boat in the race when he met Peter Clarke and as of last year was given the opportunity to be his navigator.

Chris & Jamie Owens

Brothers, Chris and Jamie Owens restored a 1984 Phantom hull and drove it to victory in their class during the 2019 Guernsey race.
Their vintage experience doesn’t stop on the water, they as even tow their rig with a 1984 Range Rover!

Dennis Clemson & Adam Litchfield

Dennis Clemson made his return to racing a couple of years ago after competing in the same class, using a similar Forgecraft mono hull in the late 1980’s and early 1990.
Clemson is joined by Adam Litchfield for this year’s Cowes Poole Cowes race.

Rob Lister & Nick Crouch

Rob Lister and Nick Crouch have decided to campaign a French Misscat hull this season after racing a vintage aluminium Forgecraft mono.
Lister raced in the Honda Four Stroke series and looks after driving duties while Crouch ensures that their trusty Go-Pro is recording their every racing mile.


James Sinclair & Sam Dickie

James Sinclair enjoyed success in ThunderCat Racing where he won the 2007 and 2008 National Championships and took 2008 European honours.
In 2017 and 2018 he competed with Richard Carr in his Mercury powered Cougar mono hull.
Sam Dickie has spent plenty of time on the water in fast boats with Sinclair and raced karts as a junior.
He has had some wild cards in the British Touring Car Championship and currently races in a BMW E30.

Glynn Norvall & Kevin Hunt

Glynn Norvall is a second-generation racer whose father competed in the first Cowes Torquay race in 1961.
Norvall has had a successful racing career, the highlight coming in India when he placed third in the 2017 Powerboat P1 World Championship.

Andy Foster & Charles Morris

Andy Foster and Charles Morris raced for the first time in the P1 SuperStock UK series with the Visit Wales boat in 2016, two years later they travelled to Coniston Water and set a class record of 68.15 mph.
In 2019, Anglo-Welsh pairing raced in the US one-design SuperStock series.
They have been racing the Powerboat P1 RIB since last season.


Thomas & Brian Pelham

Father and son team, Brian and Thomas Pelham have been successfully campaigning their Revenger RIB on the UKOPRA circuit since it held its first race in Poole in 2017.
Brian was brought up in Littlehampton where his father built Lifeboats at William Osbourne while Thomas spent his earlier years living in Spain.

Adam Younger trained as a boat designer and naval architect at Southampton.
He has worked in various design and drawing offices in the marine and aerospace environments –
Since 2002 his business has carried out private design work be it for leisure, race or commercial boat companies or for individuals.

Brian Peedell started racing in 1994 with his wife Pat and has competed all over the UK, Europe and Scandinavia.
He took part in the 2008 Round Britain race, holds the V24 world speed record, and has enjoyed much success in Class 3 offshore racing.

Nicole Peedell is Brian’s daughter, and she made her racing debut on her 18th birthday.
She took some time out from horsepower for her other love of horses until her mid-thirties when Nicole returned to the sea and competed with Gordon Compton in several Marathon races in his RIB, My Pleasure.

Dave Salter is Nicole’s partner and they have six daughters ranging from 8 to 23, so racing together will seem like date night!
He is no stranger to boats but new to racing.
His enthusiasm for the sport reminds his driver Brian of how he and his wife Pat used to feel at the beginning of their racing career!

Hugo Peel, Johnny Raymond & James Gaggero

Hugo Peel [Driver] is a retired management consultant, and created Team:RYS. He campaigned Class 3 “Black Gipsy” in 1970s and re-entered offshore racing after restoring Tommy Sopwith’s 1963 Bertram 31, “Thunderstreak”. Former vessels include sail and power, and he frequently contributes to the yachting press, assists Isle of Wight businesses and advises the young on career challenges.

James Gaggero [Throttles/Trim] joined Team:RYS this year, and heads up the Bland Group [est.1810], spanning 3 continents and embraces software, security, property development and Gibraltar’s iconic Rock Hotel. Bland also owns Hovertravel, and Southampton hovercraft design and manufacturer, Griffon Hoverwork. He is no stranger to power-boating, current driving a 2200 HP Sunseeker Predator 63.

Johnny Raymond [Navigator] is a retired film distributor living in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. He joined Team:RYS to secure double-wins in Class 4 at the Poole Bay races in 2020 and 2021. Johnny is an experienced Solent sailor, having won Cowes Week’s White Group in his Bembridge Redwing. He sailed offshore for several seasons on Max Aitken’s yacht Crusade.

Alan Goodwin, Colleen Sweeney & Tristan Ormiston

Alan Goodwin is the oldest driver in this year’s Cowes Poole Cowes race.
Competing with him are Colleen Sweeney and Tristan Ormiston in the beautiful Velocity hull that first raced back in 1983.
